I can't remember as far back as Summer 2018 but I recently we had a very hot, dry June and the summer grasses didn't come in until July. The flowers were struggling until the rain started up again in July...now they're thriving. I do love the coneflowers though. As for the Butterfly bushes, I can't help but think there is a lot of misinformation out there about them. I've never seen them "escape" from gardens. I had 2 that lived about 12 years and then died without wildly spreading. I bought a couple of the new cultivars 2 years ago, which are smaller and don't spread and have had no problems with them.

Winter in North Carolina is less, well "wintry" but it's often bleak and wet. Last winter was one of the warmest on record. Only December in Charlotte is truly "cold" anymore.

I know this may be too late to reach you, but your channel changed my life. I had never heard of plant rescue before seeing your videos, and was so inspired by it that I started to do it myself. It breaks my heart that your work and your adventures are cut short. I wish I could see what you were going to do next. But I will do my best to spread your message in whatever little ways that I can. Hoping you’re resting easy now, and I’m so glad to have had your channel in my life, even if for only a little while. 💜

Lobelia is something I've never had any success at planting in my gardens (Zone 8a). I might try again this Fall.

Jersey reminds me so much of my Maybeline, who passed away nearly a year ago. RIP old girl.

I agree that Purple Coneflowers are essential to any pollinator garden. I have several and even have a few cultivars.

The intense heat seems to really suppress butterfly activity. It's been a very hot June and while I saw a number of butterflies in April and May, right now I'm only seeing a few cabbage whites. On the other hand, the bees and wasps really seem to be thriving.

I live in NC where there are many plants like this, although they're mostly on the east coast. I should look into doing something like this.

I’ve come upon your video upon researching these beautiful wildflowers (orchids) They line my local running/ski trail in northern Ontario. First day of summer and the forest is quite warm & moist. I am also seeing the Pink Lady’s Slipper and bunches of Mountain Bluet which are nice to see. All very short-lived plants, soon will start to droop. I believe (as like the Venus Fly Trap) they are carnivorous plants that eat insects like mosquitoes🩸🦟 “Yippee”😁!!

Which one do you have planted in your yard?

California has a great native figwort.

I've tried a couple of types of milkweed where I live in NC but only the butterfly weed has survived.

Well that turned out to be anti-climatic.

THANK YOU for sharing. It's in my garden, grows on it's own, I preserve areas for it. I wanted it because it's edible, but I'm glad to know it's good for pollinators.

I have one & it is very slow growing in my garden. I also had to move it a few times and think that hasnt made it too happy. I have it planted in a very moist low area under a tall norway maple. Fingers x'd it picks up some growth soon. Have had it for about 3 years and its only put on 15"

I love Iris. I've got the yellow and blue ones, planted in 3 gardens.

Hummingbirds enjoy these flowers as they are literally cups of nectar.

Save the floss and put it out in spring in a clean suet feeder for nesting material. Birds go nuts for it.

My neighbor is pathologically afraid of mushrooms. It's a bit weird but hey, it takes all kinds.

The specked Violets are variety called “ freckles”
